San Francisco Department of the Environment (DOE) awards NextEnergy a $1.3 Million Environmental Justice grant to install solar systems in the Bayview Hunters Point district.
San Francisco, CA ... 3/1/2004 -- NextEnergy has been awarded a $1.3 million Environmental Justice grant by the San Francisco Department of the Environment (DOE) to install solar systems in the Bayview Hunter’s Point neighborhood. The program consists of training local residents on how to install solar systems for community residents. The agency running the program is the Bayview Hunters Point Community Advocates. Seniors benefit (they receive the solar systems for free) as do the young people who get trained and paid to install the systems. “NextEnergy is delighted to work with community members to install much needed solar facilities in this community. Bayview Hunters Point over the years has endured more than their share of pollution and this program helps even things up”, said Randy Kauffman, CEO of NextEnergy. The program is expected to last for 6 months.
